2016 is behind us. On a personal level it was a pretty good year. I enjoy what I do for a living and seem to be contributing something worthwhile; I get along well with my boss and coworkers and our company is doing well, so there’s nothing to complain about there. Cathy and I are enjoying our life together; we were able to travel to Africa for an incredible and amazing time; we remodeled our kitchen (and are loving it) and enjoy good health, so that’s all good too. Our respective families are doing pretty well also; Cathy’s parents are requiring a lot of her time (which she’s happy to do, but, well, it’s taking a lot of her time!) All in all, a pretty great year.
Of course it’s another thing entirely from a political standpoint, although the real challenge to our country is going to show itself in 2017 as our Groper-In-Chief takes office and begins to implement his agenda. Whatever that will be, I can’t see how the United States is going to come out at the end of his term in a better place. He has already shown that he’s trying to run the government as a CEO (and not a very good one), and only time will tell if the Republican Congress will develop a backbone and push back against his stupidity. It’s probably too much to ask that they admit that the majority of the voting populace is not behind them and that they don’t have a mandate, but one can hope.
So, a mixed view going into 2017. I am looking forward to a great year personally and in my job, while politically it’s hard to see anything positive. All things considered, I’d rather have it this way than the other way around, so I’ll keep that in focus as the new year unfolds.
